(Honorary mention: Combat Mission series, very good although more strategy games than what WT is) Players can man a tank together + IF they can survive the horrible role selection phase (you maybe have a chance to play a tank crewman, and with luck it's your friend in the same tank). Lack of tank-only maps and servers, normally tank maps contain only 1-3 tanks per side. RO2: Tank gameplay accurate and sim-like, but gameplay suffers from horrible design flaws. Better than WT in my opinion, although it's too old nowadays (no players and I guess the server is down as well). Module/crew damage was kinda minimal (sometimes optics broke). Huge maps, sensible objectives, armour and ammunition types worked well, very immersive although hit to a tank either set it on fire, destroyed it or bounced off.

RO: Darkest hour mod (+RealPanzers server): This was the best tank game for many years in my opinion although it was a small playerbase mod. Still a better simulation than WT in my opinion, even though suffers from same problems as Arma games. Iron Front: Liberation 1944: Arma-based game so it's a war sim but with WW2 theme. Steel Beasts: although represents more modern era, beats WT 10-0 if looking at the "sim" qualities - missions (realistic scenarios, but mostly user made) and vehicles. But if taking some examples of tank games where player(s) control a tank. In my opinion realistic/sim-like game has a tricky balance between accurately modeled vehicles/planes and gameplay. Now it's using the STA mod, and I cannot get it to work.

Such as learning how to stop a rush of T-26s, BTs and T-28s using a Pz II.

The game then became hard, but extremely rewarding if done right. Whether slope coefficients are in I do not know however, though judging by my T-44 being penetrated by a KT at 800m I don't think so as much. Loading HEAT I was also able to do nice damage to a T-34 with the Pz IV F1, and very nice damage to KV-1s using the Brummbar's HEAT. Testing 76mm HVAP against a JT's side, I was strangely able to get somewhat consistent fires, something I believe WT doesn't get right. HE also seems to do good enough against armored cars, but it's still off even there.

Steel Fury, made by the same devs as SABOW and having roughly the same mechanics, is significantly less forgiving as you need to switch when a crew member gets shot, crew members are actually papery and prone to bailing out on first penetration, there's a delay between switching from commander to gunner, there's a possibility to rotate when one track is snapped, controls generally feel clunkier if you're not controlling the driver as the latter cannot really guess exactly what the commander or gunner are telling him. The way WT plays is quite different, as you have free access to switch from telescopic sights from the gunner's perspective to the commander view.
